A great (but not perfect) alternative to whey and plant-based protein

While I’m usually skeptical of anything that waves the ‘paleo’ flag too hard, I decided to try this stuff out because I wanted to decrease my dairy intake, but I also haven’t found any plant-based protein powders that I don’t thoroughly despise. If I want to eat flour and sand I’ll bake at the beach.

I like it

I like the protein content (20g) and the source (beef/egg). I can’t have soy powders due to allergy. Can’t have whey due to lactose issues. Rice/Pea/Hemp powders always leave something to be desired. So this product has been my preference until I find something better. It helps keep me full in the mornings. I mix it with berries, banana, peanut butter, chia seeds and almond milk in a blender daily. With that combo, the Vanilla Almond flavor pairs well. I wish this came in more flavors though. Also this product is quite sweet on it’s own. Mixed with the tartness of the berries, it is more enjoyable for me. Stevia is the sweetener. Perhaps added to counteract the salt that is added? This has 280mg of sodium per scoop, which I’m not crazy about. Other than that, it’s a decent product that mixes well no additional additives or herbs. PS: it’s also pretty good blenderized with frozen fruit to make it more like ice cream. Then eat it with a spoon!

unless they are used to the whey protein shakes that smell like malted milk shakes

I am allergic to dairy and intolerant of soy (and my kids) and the veggie based proteins turn my stomach. I can’t understand why some people think this is so vile…unless they are used to the whey protein shakes that smell like malted milk shakes. I have to use my Vitamix to combine it but I don’t really mind. That just means the emulsifiers aren’t high. It is protein- what do you expect? I can even get my 4-year-old to drink it when he’s been shunning all sources of protein and needs a supplement. I can drink this when I crave something sweet and I always add spinach. I use one scoop of powder to at least one cup water and one cup unsweetened almond milk, sometimes ice, and 1-2 cups of spinach and blend. Sometimes I’ll add a Tbs of peanut butter.

Good product

I have horrible food allergies. Since this product has hydrolyzed beef, which means the protein chain in the beef is broken down and the immune system cannot recognize the protein as an allergen. I had hoped this would be a successful form of protein for me. I still get GI distress, but less allergic reaction. I don’t find the taste to be a problem, but when food is a problem you are less critical, and more grateful. I use 1 pkt. Truvia sweetener, decaf coffee as my liquid, ice, and a banana or blue berries. I find adding frozen fruit to make a huge difference to any protein drink and do the same in my husband’s Whey product. Using a standard blender I find you get a very thick, large shake that keeps one satisfied for 4-6 hours which is a great payoff for the calories.

Best Tasting Protein

This is the best tasting protein I’ve ever tried….and I’ve tried MANY different kinds. Flavor-wise it’s better than Muscle Milk. It’s certainly not the cheapest protein product out there, but you get what you pay for. This is a quality product that I’ve turned some of my friends onto. I normally buy both flavors (Triple Chocolate and Vanilla Almond) and mix them half and half with coconut milk and it’s awesome. The Vanilla Almond actually tastes more like caramel to me, but it’s delicious and my more favorite of the two if you’re trying to decide between flavors. That’s not to say the chocolate is bad, it’s just VERY chocolaty.
